~Equus~ HORSE RACING is in my blood. As a sport, it is unrivaled in its rich history and traditions, and the thrill and excitement of a good race can not be matched. There is nothing quite like watching horses come flying down the stretch at the racetrack, their hooves thundering, their nostrils flared, and their ears pinned back in determination. I HAVE BEEN following racing since 1984, and I have seen a number of good horses, both on TV and in real life. A few of my favorites are Swale, Ferdinand, Winning Colors, Bet Twice, Sunday Silence, Easy Goer, Unbridled, Tabasco Cat, Cherokee Run, Point Given, Officer, Habibti, Beat Hollow, Saarland, Awesome Alec, War Emblem, Vindication, Medaglia D'oro, Candy Ride, Mineshaft, Heat Haze, Six Perfections, and most beloved of all, Ipi Tombe. AS AN AVID student of history, I of course have a number of favorite horses that I was too young to see, but count among my favorites all the same. They are Kincsem, Man O' War, The Tetrarch, Mumtaz Mahal, Alsab, Count Fleet, Citation, Dr. Fager, Nijinsky, Ruffian, and Spectacular Bid. THOROUGHBRED HEROES: This is a site I have built in honor of many of my favorites. In it you will find tributes to past champions, current favorites, a yearly diary I keep of racing events, and a page dedicated to those horses whose lives were all too short. IPI TOMBE: This is my page dedicated my co-favorite filly (the others being Mumtaz Mahal and Six Perfections), the sensational Zimbabwe-bred Ipi Tombe. She is easily the best filly in the world at the moment, and perhaps even the best horse. SIX PERFECTIONS: This is my page dedicated to Six Perfections, a top filly who bested the boys in the 2003 Breeders Cup Mile. THE LANDSEER PROJECT: This a project I'm working on to raise money for Thoroughbred rescue groups. HORSE COLOR GENETICS: My website on equine color genetics made easy. It includes my general horse color page, a page on Thoroughbred color, and a page debunking the myth of albino horses. |
